We’ve kept the whole of it here — the goals, and everything the scoreline leaves out: the assists, the games he was marked out of and the 5 a.m. starts. The goals were never the whole story.
Goals get the highlight reel. He counts the pass. He’ll slide a team-mate in when the goal was his for the taking — vision over greed, the team over the tally. Even in a Golden Boot season, the pass is the one he’s proudest of.
