The bumps in the line.

Nobody’s line is straight. These are the ones that mattered most — and what we actually did about each. More will be added as they come, and as old ones resolve.

Game time

made peace
What happened

Game time isn’t always fair. Top scorers left on the bench in the matches that mattered — even after the complaints and the assurances. A close friend walked away from the club over it.

What we did

Said our piece, then stopped fighting it. Chose trust over the badge on the shirt and let his football do the arguing — he stayed, and the goals came.

Marked out of games

managing
What happened

The better he got, the less football the other team played. Two and three defenders on him at once — pulling, kicking, shadowing every step. It started to get to him.

What we did

Named it for the compliment it is. Talk to the referee, not the player — and learn that when two follow you, you’ve just freed someone else.

The knock

passed
What happened

Block after block taken on his back in Goa. Pain, an ice pack, a chill that brought tears — and dinner slept straight through at the table.

What we did

Physio, heat and an early night, then a lighter day after. He was back on the pitch for the next match.

Two academies, one boy

navigating
What happened

Pulled between the club that lets him express himself and the academy that stretches him a year up. Each wanted more of him.

What we did

Stopped forcing the choice. One rewards him, one stretches him — and a player his age needs both.
