A one-day clean sweep at Decathlon, Kengeri. Vicky FA’s U-9s won all three — 4–0, 3–0, and a 3–0 final — without conceding a single goal. Avyaan scored in every game, including two in the final as they lifted the cup.

Getting there was the first task — the venue was a long way from home. And the turf, when we arrived, was among the worst we’ve played on: so skiddy that the studs the boys normally wear simply wouldn’t grip.
To avoid an injury, we ended up buying a pair of ordinary studless Decathlon shoes from the store itself, and he switched into them from the second match on.
The competition wasn’t the strongest — but you still have to turn up and put the ball in the net, and he did, in every game. The real lesson was control: keeping the ball on a surface that skiddy. He worked it out, and did it well.
